Substrates For beta-Galactosidase
The enzyme ß-galactosidase is a very important marker for the lacZ gene, which encodes b-galactosidase and is frequently used as a reportor gene in animals and yeast. Because of its high specificity and stability, ß-galactosidase is also conjugated to streptavidin, avidin or antibodies to be used as secondary detection reagents in ELISA applications.
Biotium offer the widely used ß-galactosidase substrate-X-gal (10011), which produces a dark blue precipitate on enzymatic hydrolysis. In addition, we also offer several other chromogenic ß-galactosidase substrates, each yielding a red-, pink-, purple- and green-colored precipitate on enzyme hydrolysis.
