JOB TITLE: Scientist, Bioscience

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

DATE EFFECTIVE: 9/7/18 

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Research and development leading to the commercialization of new fluorescent reagent products for PCR, molecular biology, cell-based assays, and other biological applications.  Primary job responsibilities will be divided between laboratory research and providing technical support for customers. R&D responsibilities involve designing and executing experiments to evaluate biological applications for novel fluorescence-based dyes and reagents developed by Biotium’s chemistry R&D group, with the goal of developing innovative research products based on these technologies. Technical support responsibilities include communicating with customers to provide troubleshooting advice and product recommendations. Additional responsibilities include writing internal and customer-facing protocols for product manufacture, quality control testing, and end-user applications, and performing production and QC testing of products in an ISO 9001:2015-compliant environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Evaluate fluorescent reagents for PCR, molecular biology, in situ hybridization, or microbiology. Additional product applications may include cell based assays or reagents for flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy.
  • Independently design effective experiments, execute experiments at the laboratory bench, make detailed and general observations, and analyze data.
  • Develop new products including reagents and kits, including generating product specifications, production and quality control protocols, and transferring the process to production.
  • Perform production and quality control testing of products in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
  • Write and validate user protocols.
  • Provide product technical support for customers by phone and email.
  • Design and execute troubleshooting experiments related to customer feedback across a variety of applications.
  • Provide product training to distributors and sales representatives.
  • Represent company at conference trade shows and exhibits.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or related field, with a focus in molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, or related field. Master’s with extensive industry experience also considered.
  • An independent self-starter who enjoys problem solving and diagnostic troubleshooting.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to complete multiple tasks quickly and efficiently in a flexible and fast-paced research environment.
  • Careful, precise and accurate laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to effectively organize tasks, maintain accurate records and documentation of results.
  • Ability to master new skills, methods and instrumentation quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player, and to follow supervisory direction.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills for internal and customer-facing communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with fluorescence-based technologies a plus.
  • Experience with fluorescence-based in situ hybridization (FISH) or qPCR a plus.
  • Experience in research product development a plus.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

JOB TITLE: Marketing Assistant

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

DATE EFFECTIVE: 8/29/18 

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Biotium is a leading life science reagent company based in the Bay Area, specializing in developing and manufacturing innovative fluorescent detection kits and reagents. The Marketing Assistant will assist with organization and day-to-day implementation of marketing activities to increase awareness of our products and drive sales.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Under direction of your manager, coordinate and execute marketing campaigns, including print, email, digital, and social media initiatives.
  • Work directly with vendors/partners to coordinate marketing campaigns.
  • Work with Biotium scientists and other marketing team members to create marketing resource materials, such as printable brochures or digital assets (website image and content updates, banners, PPC campaigns, emails, etc).
  • Help to organize customer-facing events, such as trade shows.
  • Prepare status reports on marketing efforts.
  • Update marketing budget and reconcile marketing expenses.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Proficient at using Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign and Photoshop) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Word Press (for website maintenance) and email marketing software (such as Constant Contact) is a plus.
  • Graphic design experience a is plus.
  • Knowledge of social media and digital platforms and management tools is a plus.
  • Background or interest in life sciences is a plus.
  • 1-2 years experience in marketing strongly preferred.

JOB TITLE: Research Technician/Biochemistry

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Under supervision from Biotium scientists, perform biological/biochemical tests for fluorescent dyes. Perform production and quality control testing of assay kit components following standardized protocols. This individual will be responsible for production and QC of products, as well as play a role in the design, optimization and assessment of novel reagents for fluorescent detection technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform production and quality control testing of products in compliance with ISO 9001:2008 protocols.
  • Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of processes consistent with ISO 9001:2008 standards.
  • Maintain immortalized cell lines and provide cells for bioscience group experiments.
  • Execute molecular biology and cell biology assays by following detailed protocols for characterizing new fluorescent molecules, as well as analyzing and reporting data.
  • Identify and resolve production and QC non-conformities.
  • Work with chemists and biologists in the implementation, execution, and analysis of new bioscience assays.
  • Perform complex biological assays using established protocols and standard laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Respond quickly to changing priorities and handle multiple projects with potentially overlapping deadlines.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, protocols and processes.
  • Assist in identifying and solving problems in protocol designs.
  • Maintain equipment and a safe and clean working environment.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology or a related field with at least 1 year of research experience.
  • Hands-on experience with cell biology or biochemistry assays.
  • Capable of setting up bioscience assays independently for molecule characterization.
