Staff Scientist (Chemistry)

JOB TITLE: Staff Scientist (Chemistry)

LOCATION: Fremont, California

JOB FUNCTIONS:

This Staff Scientist (Chemistry) position focuses on the production of fluorescent reagents and improvement of manufacturing processes. This position will also involve developing novel fluorescent reagents for various detection platforms such as flow cytometry, microscopy, and live cell imaging systems.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Under direct supervision from the VP of Research and Development, the Staff Scientist will perform R&D and production projects utilizing/modifying existing protocols. The Staff Scientist will also design and execute new protocols for custom orders and new production items. The Staff Scientist will be expected to use his/her extensive knowledge of chemistry to successfully complete complex multi-step reactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Under general guidelines, independently plan, organize, and perform the synthesis of new and existing products to meet product specifications. Plans production schedule for on-time delivery of products.
  • Write, review and revise, as necessary, manufacturing and QC protocols for clarity, process improvement and/or material changes as prescribed by procedures and policies.
  • Independently adapt or modify methods to achieve technical objectives.
  • Address and report problems in daily production and propose effective countermeasures.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and drive efficiency results.
  • Use highly specialized equipment and instrumentation in daily functions.
  • Critically analyze data and interpret experimental results.
  • Write protocols and lab notebooks documenting processes and improvements consistent with ISO 9001 standards.

Chemistry Technician I (Chemistry)

JOB TITLE: Chemistry Technician I

LOCATION: Fremont, California

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Under the direct supervision from senior chemist, perform chemical purifications using chromatography including preparative HPLC or gravity chromatography; carry out chemical synthesis using standard protocols; carry out chemical analyses using modern instruments including analytical HPLC, LC-MS, TLC, UV/Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform purifications of chemical compounds by preparative HPLC or gravity chromatography.
  • Perform production of chemical compounds by following ISO protocols
  • Perform analytical HPLC on compounds.
  • Must possess sufficient chemistry knowledge and HPLC experiences to develop HPLC conditions for both analytical and preparative purposes using chemical structure information provided.
  • Perform LC-MS on chemical compounds and interpret the results.
  • Perform UV/Vis and/or fluorescence spectrophotometry on dyes.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and minor repair of the above instruments.
  • Write protocols for laboratory procedures and accurately and clearly document results and observations in lab notebooks.

Bioconjugation Scientist (Bioconjugation)

JOB TITLE: Bioconjugation Scientist (Bioconjugation)

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Synthesis, purification and characterization of antibody/biomolecule conjugates with fluorescent dyes, fluorescent proteins, fluorescent tandem dyes, enzyme reporters and polymeric scaffold. Research and development leading to commercialize bioconjugation products. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in chemistry and bioconjugation chemistry and have experience performing bioconjugation reactions, protein purification and requisite analytical techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Synthesize bioconjugates using established chemistries.
  • Contribute to the development of new bioconjugation methodologies.
  • Evaluate new bioconjugation methods from the literatures.
  • Purify bioconjugates by size exclusion chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography and hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
  • Optimize protein and antibody conjugation and purification methods.
  • Develop and implement assays for quality control.
  • Create SOPs and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of AKTA platform or equivalents.
  • Characterize bioconjugates using multiple techniques such as UV/Vis, fluorescence, HPLC, MS and particle analyzer.
  • Mentor research associates in experimental design, data interpretation, laboratory and instrument techniques and best practices.
  • Operates lab instruments according to established procedures and prepares reagents as needed.

  • Presents data at team meetings or to small focus groups that may include representatives from other departments and/or outside parties and participates in brainstorming and troubleshooting sessions within or between teams, offering and implementing solutions to problems.
  • Performs and is involved in the planning and documentation of verification activities to ensure that newly developed products meet the pre-determined product specifications,
  • May facilitate the transfer research products to Manufacturing/Operations and is involved in completion and release of enabling documentation for newly developed products by ensuring all relevant technical information is incorporated into the appropriate documents.
  • Maintains familiarity with current technology related information and/or literature and conducts project related information searches and may be involved in extensive literature searches.
  • Trains others in laboratory procedures and processes, and in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments. Provides feedback to supervisor on training progress.
  • Performs other duties and assumes additional departmental responsibilities as required. Performs other assignments and tasks as directed.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills within and between departments. Maintains appropriate laboratory records, notebooks, and other formal company documentation, as required.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD degree in Chemistry or Biological Science with 3 year experience in bioconjugation or MS/B Sc degree in Chemistry or Biological Science with 7 year experience in bioconjugation.

Research Associate, Molecular Biology

JOB TITLE: Research Associate (Molecular Biology)

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

JOB OBJECTIVE:

This role will be responsible for performing production-scale nucleic acid purifications and nucleic acid detection using fluorescence assays and quantitative PCR. The successful candidate will have experience handling DNA and RNA, and be capable of demonstrating careful pipetting technique in sensitive assays. This individual will play an important supporting role in the design, optimization, and assessment of new nucleic acid detection products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Purify high-quality RNA from a variety cell sources.
  • Prepare DNA and RNA solutions, buffers, and other components for molecular biology kits.
  • Perform sensitive nucleic acid detection assays as part of quality control.
  • Perform production and quality control testing of products in compliance with our ISO 90 01:2015 quality system.
  • Assist in the development of new molecular biology assays.
  • Respond quickly to changing priorities and handle multiple projects.
  • Assist in identifying and solving problems in protocol designs.

Support Scientist/Technical Writer

JOB TITLE: Support Scientist/Technical Writer

JOB OBJECTIVE:  Biotium is a leading life science reagent company based in the Bay Area, specializing in developing and manufacturing innovative fluorescent detection kits and reagents.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in life science who has excellent communication skills. As part of the technical support team, you will provide product recommendations, technical advice, and troubleshooting for customers and distributors. As a technical writer you will work with our scientists and marketing team members to create and update official product documents as well as creative marketing materials. This includes but is not limited to product information sheets, safety data sheets, flyers, and brochures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Work with our scientists and marketing team members to:

  • With guidance from our scientific team, provide product technical support and product recommendations to customers and distributors by phone and email.
  • Help investigate potentially non-conforming products based on customer feedback.
  • Create and revise customer-facing documents including product information sheets and safety data sheets.
  • Create and edit website content including blogs, highlighted citations, app notes, and reference lists.
  • Communicate with research, marketing, and customer service teams to provide insight on customer needs and potential room for improvement.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

Customer Service Supervisor supervises a staff of customer service specialists that respond to requests from customers by phone or e-mail and manages the daily work load to ensure required service volume and quality levels are attained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Customer Service team including handling escalated calls from customers who wish to speak with a supervisor and availability to answer CSR questions and concerns throughout the day
  • Create, process and/or cancel orders received via Sage ERP system (licensee & reseller)

  • Communicate and respond promptly with customers through various channels

  • Plan, prioritize and delegate work tasks to ensure proper functioning of the department
  • Ensure the necessary resources and tools are available for quality customer service
  • Analyze relevant data to determine customer service outputs
  • Investigate customer issues/problems and create mutually beneficial solutions
  • Manage data import/export into 3rd party ordering platforms (EDI, Transcepta, etc.)
  • Facility management coordinator
  • Track on time delivery and quarterly freight trends
  • Serve as a backup to answer inbound phone lines during times of staff absence or increased call volume
  • Assist with the training of new hires and continued development of existing staff
  • Review activity logs and make adjustments to staff coverage on various call queues to ensure timely handling of calls and non-telephone tasks
  • Trains and coach customer service staff on ISO9001:2015 standard policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Regularly meet with CSRs to review individual performance related to service-level objectives and key performance indicators
  • Regularly meet with management to report the progress of the Customer Service team
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned
  • Be aware of ISO9001:2015 regulations and follow the requirements per the company’s Quality Manual

EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • Required HS Diploma or Equivalent. Preferred, Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, or a related field

Work Experience:

  •  Minimum four years of experience in a customer service role one year of which was in a supervisory or lead capacity

Industry Knowledge:

  • Ability to conduct all necessary research to accurately identify complex issues and provide guidance to other Customer Service Representatives for resolution
  • Knowledge of customer service systems, databases and CRM tools. Preferred, Sage ERP100
  • Working knowledge and the ability to efficiently operate all applicable computer software including computer applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to use keyboard with moderate speed and high level of accuracy

JOB OBJECTIVE: Customer Service Specialist 1, you will be the primary point of contact for our domestic distributors and end-users. You will be responsible for answering all incoming calls and emails and fielding customer questions pertaining to the order process and general company information. As a Customer Service Specialist 1, you will also be responsible for all domestic order processing activities as well light accounts receivable and administrative office duties.

JOB OBJECTIVE: 

Biotium is a leading life science reagent company based in the Bay Area, specializing in developing and manufacturing innovative fluorescent detection kits and reagents. The Marketing Assistant will assist with organization and day-to-day implementation of marketing activities to increase awareness of our products and drive sales. This includes creating and updating visual assets for brochures, flyers, web content, email, social media, and other channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with creating and updating the design for brochures, flyers, web content, social media, and other channels.
  • Maintain corporate identity and branding across all marketing channels, including visual style, color palette, and fonts.
  • Coordinate weekly social posts, and monitor social media activity.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to design and schedule marketing emails to current subscribers.
  • Take pictures of Biotium products and prepare them for display on our website and other promotional use.
  • Manage print material inventory and assist with the resupply of print materials and other promotional products.
  • Help to organize customer-facing events, such as trade shows.
  • Assist with the advancement of company culture by promoting communication and company values.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Proficient at using Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign and Photoshop) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Word Press (for website maintenance) and email marketing software (such as Constant Contact) is a plus.
  • Graphic design, product photography, and video production experience is a plus.
