JOB TITLE: Research Technician/Research Associate, Bioscience

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

DATE EFFECTIVE: 6/1/16

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Under supervision from Biotium scientists, perform biological/biochemical tests for fluorescent dyes. Perform production and quality control testing of assay kit components following standardized protocols. Under the supervision of of a scientist, perform R&D assays to identify new chemical entities for fluorescence detection. This individual will be responsible for production and QC of products, as well as play a role in the design, optimization and assessment of novel reagents for fluorescent detection technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform production and quality control testing of products in compliance with ISO 9001:2008 protocols.
  • Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of processes consistent with ISO 9001:2008 standards.
  • Execute molecular biology and cell biology assays by following detailed protocols for characterizing new fluorescence molecules, as well as analyzing and reporting data.
  • Identify and resolve production and QC non-conformities.
  • Work with chemists and biologists in the implementation, execution and analysis of new bioscience assays.
  • Perform complex biological assays using established protocols and standard laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Respond quickly to changing priorities and handle multiple projects with potentially overlapping deadlines.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, protocols and processes.
  • Assist in identifying and solving problems in protocol designs.
  • Maintain equipment and a safe and clean working environment.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or a related field with at least 1 year of research experience.
  • Hands-on experience with DNA and RNA characterization techniques (electrophoresis, quantitation, PCR and other molecular biology assays).
  • Capable of setting up bioscience assays independently for molecule characterization.
  • An independent self-starter who enjoys problem solving and diagnostic troubleshooting.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to complete multiple tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Careful, precise and accurate laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to effectively organize tasks, maintain accurate records and documentation of results.
  • Ability to master new skills, methods and instrumentation quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player, and to follow supervisory direction.
  • Ability to use common window-based software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point) to perform analysis and interpretation of technical and laboratory data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present scientific results clearly and concisely.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Industrial experience in biotechnology or product development a plus.
  • Experience with cell culture or other cell biology assays a plus.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Work is carried out in a typical biochemistry/chemistry laboratory setting. Work may require frequent sitting, standing, walking and lifting and/or carrying of chemicals or chemical containers. Work may also require sitting and working at a computer or standing at a laboratory bench for long periods of time.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or a related field with at least 1 year of research experience.

JOB TITLE: Technical Marketing Specialist

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

DATE EFFECTIVE: 6/1/16

JOB OBJECTIVE:  The Technical Marketing Specialist supports business plans and sales efforts through creation, development and generation of brand, promotional and awareness tools for customers, distributors and scientific community. The candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering the training curriculum and associated workflows for scientists and sales support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Manage the development and/or maintenance of marketing communication tools – writing product technical material, quick-start protocols, online tutorials and webinars of products to increase market knowledge and awareness and to promote the sale of products.
  • Draft promotional advertising, brochures and flyers for products and update appropriate marketing tools.
  • Assist in the adoption of new digital marketing technologies to ensure we exploit the full capabilities of new technologies to drive commercial impact.
  • Visits customers and work as local sales representative to assess performance differences between competitive solutions and ours.
  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure projects are accurate and done in a timely manner.
  • Help identify and participate in industry trade shows.
  • Coordinate graphic design and printing vendors for creation of marketing materials.
  • Develop and deliver content and monitor activity on a regular basis.
  • Develop and manage PR opportunities to include posters, presentations, speaking engagements, press releases, editorials in industry journals, sponsorships and joint marketing to maximize exposure to market.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong Training skills
  • Organizational skills for planning training classes, certifications, contests.
  • Ability to interact with internal scientists from different culture, regions.
  • Ability to communicate with various partners (Customers, Distributors, Sales Representatives)

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3+ years product marketing experience.
  • Internal or external agency experience preferred.
  • Experience in life sciences, research or diagnostics reagents strongly preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strategic thinking and planning skills in order to insure continued growth.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to establish rapport and develop strong professional partnerships at all levels with internal and external suppliers/customers.

JOB TITLE: Staff Scientist I (Chemistry)

LOCATION: Fremont, CA

JOB OBJECTIVE:  Under general supervision from VP of Research and Development, perform production projects utilizing/modifying existing protocols. Design and execute new protocol for custom orders and new production items. Use extensive knowledge of chemistry to successfully complete complicated multi-step reactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Under general guidelines, independently plan, organize, and perform production of existing products so as to meet product specifications. Plans production schedule on-time delivery of products.
– Write, review and revise, as necessary, manufacturing and QC protocols for clarity, process improvement and/or material changes as prescribed by procedures and policies.
– Independently adapt or modify methods to achieve technical objectives.
– Critically analyze data and interpret experimental results.
– Write protocols and lab notebooks documenting processes and improvements consistent with ISO 9002 standards.
– Work as an active team member assisting the implementation of new processes within the production group.
– Maintain high level of professional expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature with respect to compounds, reactions, and processes.
